Catalan wine growers started marketing the first bottles of cava in Catalonia at the end of the 19th century. Sant Sadurní d'Anoia and the surrounding area became the core of this increasingly growing and expanding industry and nowadays the cava producing region in Catalonia is made up of one hundred and sixty municipalities. All cava leaving the region is labelled D.O. indicating and proving the guarantee of origin and quality.
